Company history
The company, with its headquarters in Glasgow, was legally established in April 1984.
In the early 1990’s, a strategic decision was made that the company would focus on providing longer-term telephone helplines. These included Smokeline, Sexwise, the National Drugs Helpline and the NHS Helpline for Scotland, all highly recognisable brand names in telephone information provision.
This allowed us to build up considerable expertise in the field of health and social welfare telephone advice and support services and our current portfolio of clients includes the Scottish Executive, the Department of Health, the Central Office of Information, and the NHS Health Scotland, among others.
Our reputation has been built on ensuring that we provide high quality services to callers in the fields of health and lifestyle information. We achieve this by ensuring that our staff have the necessary background and experience and are then trained appropriately to deliver a service to the clients’ specification. They are supported by databases with regularly updated referral information, and all statistical and qualitative reporting is produced in line with our clients’ requests.
When did the company become The essentiagroup?
In 2000 the business underwent a rebranding exercise and was relaunched as The essentiagroup, enabling us to define our identity as our client base was expanding. This also reflected the fact that we were no longer serving a local market. As a result of our success, The essentiagroup developed specialised divisions to focus on different clients’ key needs. These include essentiapharm, which delivers a variety of services for our pharmaceutical clients.
In 2004 there was a management buy-out of the company which took The essentiagroup onto a whole new level as it continues to grow.
In summary, The essentiagroup currently receives over 6 million calls per annum across various services, ranging from simple information and literature requests, to in-depth advice and support, all tailored to individual caller needs.
